Getting Started
New Beginnings.
Like many during 2020, we found ourselves in a difficult situation and decided to do what we had been thinking about doing for some time - starting our own consultancy firm. Our goal was and is to create a company that allows us to provide quality engineering services while chasing the elusive work-life balance, something which I’m sure most of us all now hold in greater esteem.
Whilst we knew what we wanted from our new company we had no idea on how to get things off the ground, and to be honest I think we were somewhat naïve heading in. Getting started has since proved to be a bit more of a grind than was originally expected, particularly in regards to obtaining insurances. Getting insurance in the Diagnostic and Remedial Engineering space in the current climate has turned out to be more than an inconvenience - it nearly stopped us dead in our tracks. With all the issues swirling around the industry at present - combustible cladding and various large scale building defects incurring property loss and sadly a loss of life in some instances - insurers are apparently loath to saddle up with our industry.
Our brokers were looking far and wide, with our best option at one stage being an insurer in London - which indicated that the Australian market was altogether unwilling to get involved with Aussie Diagnostic & Remedial Engineers. However, as of last week we found ourselves an Aussie based insurer willing to offer us liability and indemnity coverage at a fair price which came just in the nick of time due to the critical timeline of several projects requiring our input. We are now happy to say that we are finally up and running and looking forward to a bright future. We can’t wait to get started on the big projects we have lined up and getting back out on to site doing what we love - hanging around on some amazing structures with some amazing views, and inspecting of course.
